Are you on an endless quest to become enough?
It’s Monday morning, the alarm goes off, you hit the snooze button once again. You turn over and pull the sheets over your head. You think to yourself, “I don’t want to get out of bed, can’t the weekend just be a little longer?” You’re bombarded by a zillion negative thoughts:
- I hate my job. I need a new one.
- I wish I had more time and money.
- I really want a bigger house.
- Why haven’t I found the love of my life yet?
- I feel sad, depressed, hurt.
- There’s just no hope.
The thoughts keep flowing in and can go on forever. You feel overwhelmed, burnt out, like nothing in life is working for you. You have a sudden realization: I am so unhappy with myself. You keep telling yourself, maybe if I do “xyz” I will feel better. Maybe if I get a promotion at work, I’ll finally be happy. Maybe if I have a family, then I’ll finally be happy. Maybe if I get a new house, I’ll finally be happy. Maybe if I go on a vacation, I’ll finally be happy…
The truth is… you can go near or far, on an endless search for happiness, but you will never be happy if you search externally for this sense of fulfillment.
Happiness is found in the here and now, when you stop looking outside of yourself to feel a sense of wholeness. Happiness is realizing that you are enough, right now in this moment. It’s knowing that you don’t have to obtain those “things” you think you need to, to be whole. You are enough right now. You always have been. And you always will be. You just have to realize that. No amount of external validation will fill you up inside if you do not believe this truth.
Take some time out right now to breathe that in.
I am enough.
I am enough.
I am enough.
“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”
-Eckhart Tolle
