“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.”
-Mary Oliver
Suffering. The terrible feelings we feel as the world disappoints us with its cruelties. We’ve all experienced it whether it’s a heart break, the death of a loved one, the rejection or fear of abandonment that comes up. It hits us like a brick wall shattering, breaking us down to tiny pieces. The pain, the tears, the anger swell up as we get sucked into this tornado of emotions that swallow us up.
We’re so deep in this abyss of darkness, we shun away the light. We hide away from the world and dream of vanishing into thin air.
Until suddenly, a miracle happens. We have a brief moment of clarity. We pull ourself out of the darkness and we look at it from a distance with wondering eyes.
“Why have you invaded my life oh darkness? Why can’t you just let me be?”
Oh child, if only you knew.
Even in the darkest nights, the stars light up the brilliant sky. You are a star my child. You are the light. If only you would remember, the darkness would disappear.
